A Work per Day: The Dead Zone

© Copyright to CBS. 2002. All rights reserved.
Many people asked me if Sean had already acted as a villain. The answer was yes, of course; and one of these villains is Gregory Ammas Stillson, as known as Greg Stillson from The Dead Zone series, based on Stephen King's novel.

Data:

Name: The Dead Zone
Name (Brazilian Portuguese): A Zona Morta/The Dead Zone
Release Date: June 16, 2002
Format: TV Show
Creator: Michael Piller and Shawn Piller
Based on: Stephen King's novel, The Dead Zone
Cast: Anthony Michael Hall (Johnny Smith), Nicole de Boer (Sarah Bracknell Bannerman), Chris Bruno (Sheriff Walt Bannerman), John L. Adams (Bruce Lewis), David Ogden Stiers (Reverend Eugene 'Gene' Purdy), Sean Patrick Flanery (Gregory Ammas Stillson)
Tagline: You should see what he sees.
Network: CBS
Timeline: 1976-2007

The Dead Zone is a story about a man who accidently received the power of the visions when he touches anyone. Johnny Smith meets Greg Stillson, a politician, and as he touches the candidate, he sees the Armageddon. Now Johnny wants to stop Stillson to be senator and, then, president before it's too late. Also, Johnny is connected to Greg since their childhood.

The TV Show doesn't focus a lot on Greg's character; that's because of the number of episodes. But it always shows the viewer Greg is the the main villain of the series. Many people believed Greg was controlled by his father, then Malcolm Janus, but in the end he was just using them to achieve his goals.

The series doesn't have an ending due to the weak audience in the last season. Stillson finishes the series as the Vice President, but the novel ending never happened (President Stillson uses a child in order to protect himself from Johnny's rifle and he loses the Presidency because of that).

Trivia:
  • Chris Bruno (Walt Bannerman) is a close friend of Sean Patrick Flanery. Both directed Flanery's alter ego, Devlin Dubois, series called Devlin Made Me Do It! and the movie No Game.
  • Sean uses Brazilian Jiu Jitsu moves in the series.
  • One of Sean's habits is in the TV series: he uses watches with the clock itself on his pulse, not above it as people usually do. You can see this habit in other movies and TV shows.

Opinion by a Fan: Saw 3D

We are going to start a new topic called Opinion by a Fan. Jessica Storrer will give her opinion about some Sean movies and TV shows. Today's movie is Saw 3D.

SAW 3D

As a ‘Saw-movies’ sick lover, it was a HUGE surprise to me to see Sean Patrick Flanery starring as the main character from SAW 3D. He plays Bobby Dagen, a man who, with some people help, pretends to be a victim of one of Jigsaw’s games to be famous and get money.

At first, everything seems to be ok, lots of people are buying the book, he appears in TV shows, makes book signatures, summarizing, all he needs to grow according to his and his friends' plans.

© Copyright to Twisted Pictures. 2010. All rights reserved.
Something else that makes us take his side is his innocent wife. She has no ideia about his lies and we can see that she really loves him. At first you can’t get what he feels about her, but in the end, you can say for sure that it’s a real feeling

The way Sean plays Bobby makes us think about how wrong is to lie, if you aren't hurting anyone. He isn't a bad guy, but he’s doing something so wrong that catches the viewer's attention: we do want him to be punished, but we also feel sorry for him.

© Copyright to Twisted Pictures. 2010. All rights reserved.
At some point he receives an unexpected “fan”: Jigsaw himself. Bobby doesn’t know who he is, but he knows this guy is dangerous and that something isn't ok. He receives a kind of warning, but he has no idea what is going to happen.

As a moral lesson, Bobby and all the ones involved in this huge lie are confined in a real Saw game. He's the one who has to save the others. While he tries to set people free from the gadgets, he keeps receiving televison images of his wife in the last gadget (he’ll be only able to find her after releasing the first ones).

As he sees he’s not able to save them, he gets more and more frustrated and mad at himself. He needs to help them, but the more he tries, the less he does.

A lot happens while he's in the middle of this horror journey; Thar can confuse some viewers who aren't that involved with the whole story.

This is the seventh Saw movie, and the critics say this isn't the best one, but, for sure, the movie is a remarkable one for everyone who enjoys blood, screams and a very handsome actor.

Devlin Dubois: Sean Flanery's Alter Ego

Copyright to Sean Patrick Flanery
Yesterday I was just going to bed when Devlin Dubois tweeted. He's a very funny, cynical and he likes to confront Sean. Both had a little fight on Twitter last night and none wanted to lose. It was really interesting.

Everybody has an alter ego. But what is an alter ego anyway? Psychology explains that it is another self. There are people even with more than four alter egos! Myself has one, and he is a man. But let's forget me and talk about Sean's alter ego, Devlin Dubois.

Devlin seems to be Sean's number 1 rival. He's much older than Sean. Both are Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but Devlin knows Judo too (according to Twitter's little "fight" yesterday, he's training American Judokas to the Olympic Games in London). Still, Sean is black belt in Karate. Devlin is also a womanizer, enjoys company of pretty women. He likes to flirt a lot. An idea to catch Devlin's attention: Be a beautiful woman. Ha!

The guy has a strong Texan accent even when he writes. Sean made a reference from Tarantino's Pulp Fiction last night as Devlin tweeted: English. Do you speak it? - That's because of Devlin's way to write.

Here is a video with Devlin for you to know him better:
People say this video is from 1982 (?), hahaha!

What made me write this post is because I could see myself as Sean/Devlin. Let me explain: I also have an alter ego and I like to show everyone about it (although I won't say who he is). And Sean and Devlin fighting last night was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life. No kidding! Both make me laugh a lot. I'm very happy Devlin exists. I wonder if he's going to show up on Brazilian Twempirians' group one day to tell us he's better than Sean hahaha! And Sean won't make it easy, of course!

Devlin Dubois = Genius created by another genius

A Work per Day: The Boondock Saints

One of his best works. Because of Connor MacManus, Sean has a lot of fans. Many fans consider this movie the best one Sean has already acted.

Data:

Name: The Boondock Saints
Name (Brazilian Portuguese): Santos Justiceiros
Release Date: August 4, 1999 (Germany)
Format: Movie
Director: Troy Duffy
Cast: Willem Dafoe (FBI Agent Paul Smecker), Sean Patrick Flanery (Connor MacManus), Norman Reedus (Murphy MacManus), David Della Rocco (Rocco 'The Funny Man'), Billy Connolly (Noah 'Il Duce' MacManus).
Tagline: Thy Kingdom Come. Thy Will Be Done.
Timeline: 1999

The Boondock Saints is about two Irish brothers who believe they received a message from God to kill all bad men. Meanwhile, FBI agent Paul Smecker tries to find out who is doing the murders, but part of him believes they are right.

Connor MacManus' Traits: Connor is the one who elaborates the plans. He had the idea to kill the Mafia men listening to a Russian pager. Connor is fan of Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson (like Sean Patrick Flanery himself) and always gets a rope because of their movies. He is the "Son" of MacManus family (Noah is the 'Father' and Murphy, the 'Holy Spirit').

Trivia:
  • Connor's tattoo is VERITAS (Truth). Sean has character named Veritas, a hero who can find out who is lying and he is the hero of Truth.
  • Connor and his brother use suppressed Beretta 92f pistols.
  • Connor has 3 visible tattoos.
  • His mother, in a deleted scene, said to both MacManus brothers who came out first had the bigger penis. Actor Norman Reedus (Murphy) admitted Sean had the bigger one. However, no one knows who is the oldest brother (only Troy Duffy, probably).

About Sean Flanery's latest post on HBJJ Blog

"Y’all are some of the best fans on the planet, many of whom I’ve met, and gotten to know, and spent time with. I don’t want to lose y’all."

- Sean Patrick Flanery

Why are people getting SO mad at Sean? For you, who read the latest post he wrote on his HBJJ about being fat, Sean showed us the bitter truth. But STILL THE TRUTH. People have troubles to lose weight. I know that because I see my mom struggling to do it and even so, she DOESN'T give up.

People who complained about Sean's post don't believe in themselves. They blame the genetics, the family, the food... but NEVER, EVER themselves. It's time to wake up and fight. You won't lose weight if you don't start AND keep going.

Sean only wants to HELP his fans, friends and people who read his blog. I get sad when I saw people who don't get his message and victimize themselves. Believing or not, it's only the truth.

Now read the sentence from Sean above: IS HE TRYING TO HURT YOU? He's ONLY worry about you.

A Work per Day: Powder

Today we will talk about another important work for Sean Patrick Flanery: Powder.

Data:

Name: Powder
Name (Brazilian Portuguese): Energia Pura
Release Date: October 27th, 1995
Format: Movie
Director: Victor Salva
Cast: Sean Patrick Flanery (Jeremy 'Powder' Reed), Mary Steenburgen (Jessie Caldwell), Lance Henriksen (Sheriff Doug Barnum), Jeff Goldblum (Donald Ripley).
Tagline: Pure energy has a name.
Timeline: Jeremy's birth - 1995

Powder is a fantastic movie about a young man called Jeremy Reed who was born albino and with a strange power: he could control energy. The movie shows the viewer how some people are treated because they have something "different" than the usual. Bullying is one of the topics.

Many SPF's fans consider Jeremy 'Powder' Reed his top character.

Curiosities:

  • Powder is cited in a Californication episode (The Ride Along: Season 5, Episode 5): Charlie is called 'Powder'.
  • In Tarantino's Smashing Pumpkins (Saturday Night Live, Season 21, Episode 5), a singer from Smashing Pumpkins is referred as the kid from Powder.
  • Again in Saturday Night Live, in David Alan Grier's Silverchair (Season 21, Episode 8), the title of the movie is cited during Spade in America's Hollywood Minute.
  • In Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Season 9, Episode 8 - The She-Creature), Pearl refers to the Observer as 'Powder'.
  • Again in Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Season 11, Episode 13 - Diabolik), Tom says "Happy Halloween! I came as Powder!"
  • In How to Be a Serial Killer (2008), Powder is also mentioned.
This is a very good site about the Philosophy in Powder:

The Time Of My Life – The Adventures of a Brazilian Chick in Philadelphia Comic Con

Fifteen hours among airplanes, airports, luggage, customs, and finally I landed at Philadelphia. Exhausted, starving, trying to keep my eyes opened. Two nights without sleeping. Happy, unbearably happy.

I am used to those long “journeys”. As a surgeon, staying night after night awake working and beginning the next day with a smile is not something new. I am physically and psychologically prepared for that. But this time is diferent: I am not with a patient, I am with a dream. And that makes my heart go BOOM! Yes, physically prepared. But emotionally? Let’s see...

That was not supposed to be a part of my vacations plan. I was supposed to spend a week in Orlando and a week in NYC. But my morbid curiosity took me to some website some weeks before and I learned about that Comic Con some days before my arrival. Better than that, I learnt about those Boondock Saints guys attending that Con. I GOTTA GO! When I’d have this oportunity again ? Surely not so soon. I’ll change my plans and YES, I’ll go!

Fifteen hours among airplanes, airports, luggage, customs, hotels, taxi cabs, and finally arrived at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Happy even being on the line while awaiting the doors to be opened and – as a typical Brazilian one – making friends at the line! And at the other line, the other one and one more... then, the last one – and let’s wait for the boys to come! I wasn’t even tired or hungry anymore – happiness really can feed us and heal our aches in an unbelieveable way!

And then, Sean was there – someone on the line told him something and then the air was filled by his voice singing “Viva Las Vegas”! Right, Sabrina, don’t panic now! Yes, Sabrina, you ARE in panic!!! Your English sucks, you forgot everything you wanted to tell him, your hands are shaking! WHERE IS MY SELF CONTROL NOW? I forgot it somewhere on the way, maybe left it in Brazil! The line goes fast, and at least I gotta stop shaking.

And then, time stopped. I was in front of him. Sean. Outside I was trying to say a joke, saying some silly stuff, appearing to be the most Zen person in the world. But I was really, REALLY nervous. So nervous that I forgot to introduce myself! LOL! When Sean asked me if we have met before I felt my face blushing and my cheeks were on fire! Well, I introduced myself and told him how happy I was to be there after fifteen hours travelling from Brazil, and that I was really glad to meet him! The ice was definitely broken.

I loved the way Sean smiled and recognized me as a Brazilian Twempirian! Suddenly I was so comfortable talking to him as if we knew each other since kindergarten! My English still sucked, but I was so happy at that moment that my accent or grammar mistakes became irrelevant. Mr. President is a warm, handsome, welcoming, sweet, gentle guy. And yes, he is HOTTER than on TV, for sure!

While we were talking, I delivered to him Jeh’s present and Jess’ letter. He loved them, for sure. His expression was completely sweet and again, his smile was unforgettable. I wish the girls could have seen it! He thanked them all and started taking pictures... and twitted them! Yes, Sabrina, this is happening to you! Sean Patrick Flanery just twitted some pics of us – Mr. President and his Brazilian Twempirian! The guy is just one surprise after another! I couldn’t help smiling the whole time, completely hypnotized by the moment... and by his almost magical and certainly outstanding presence!

Then, the autographs, a photo of us... two photos of us... three, if we count the one he twitted! The best hug in the world. Listen to his words while telling me how he appreciated my efforts for being there... and the line stopped! LOL! Time to go, before the other fans decide to lynch me!!! But that was not the end!!!!!!!

Next day (the last one) I was there again. The same line. The third night without sleeping (happiness has this effect – I was so excited that I spent the whole night awake and trying to figure out if it was a dream or if it has really happened). Two hours in another line. More new friends. And here he comes again!!!

The first great surprise: I said hi to him and he replied with a “Hello, Sabrina, my Brazilian Twempirian”! HE REMEMBERED MY NAME!!!! Among all those girls he talked the day before, he remembered me!!! Right, Sabrina... DON’T CRY!!!

Well, on this second day I was in a “diplomatic mission”- I wanted to have an autographed photo for the Brazilian Twempirians. With the same sweetness as always, he signed the photo for us... and twitted it – as he said: “I‘ll send some news from you for your friends. Can I tell them you’re ok?” Sure you can, Sean! He asked me if the Brazilian Twempirians have a webpage or stuff like that, and I told him we had the Facebook page, but we’re thinking of something bigger. He approved that, and told me he would be with us on FB’s Brazilian Twempirian page. And, of course, asked us to tell him when we finally have our own page, so he can participate of it. That was the first seed of this blog!

Time to say goodbye. Another hug. Again he said thank you for all my journey. No, Sean... I have to say thank you! Thanks for being this amazing person, awesome actor, this great example to be followed by all of us. We will meet again, boy! That’s a promise!

I left the Convention Center, took a taxi cab and finally allowed myself to cry. Yes, Mr. Taxi Driver, I am ok. These tears are of pure joy! And the lyrics of an old song just came into my mind:

“Now I've had the time of my life
No, I've never felt like this before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you”

Fifteen hours among airplanes, airports, luggage, customs, hotels. taxi cabs. And I'd do it all over again! Oh, wait! I WILL do it again and again...

See you soon, Sean. Love you so much! And thanks for everything!

Sabrina (@BinaPic)
